Times are changing and so is the Architecture and Construction industry. The need for change and more sustainable solutions such as eco-friendly boilers is becoming increasingly urgent. After 18 months of restrictions, there is no better time to appreciate the warm weather and sapphire blue skies as summer approaches. Never in our lives have we enjoyed opening the garden doors as much as we have recently. Taking in a deep breath to be greeted by the glorious smell of freedom and the chatter of family, friends and laughter.
However, it is also a time for our homes to breathe a sigh of relief after months of keeping the cold out, the heat in and your bills down. Whilst this is benefiting us, it is actually harming the environment we live in. The need for change is greater than ever, and it is time we began focussing more on the changes we need to implement in order to make a difference and begin undoing the damage.
The Government has planned an ambitious target to reduce the UK’s emissions by at least 68% by 2030 (compared to 1990 levels) in order to help the UK reach the net zero emission target by 2050. To reach this target, the Government have put in place plans to ban gas boilers in new homes by 2025 as it has been proven that homes produce on average 20% of the total emissions in the UK.
With new homes being fitted with alternative, eco-friendly boilers it is predicted that homes will produce 70-80% less carbon emissions. There has already been a seismic shift by communities wanting to do their bit to help the UK reach net zero emissions by 2050. James Roberts of RMR Architecture has experienced this first-hand:
What are eco-friendly boilers?
Eco-friendly boilers are the alternative to traditional gas boilers. There are a few variations, but the most common being installed in new homes is Air Source Heat Pumps. Using a fan, these new boilers utilise the air from outside your home and convert it into heat for your home. There are also Ground Source Heat Pumps which provide the same job, but gain the heat from the ground using underground pipes.
What you can do to make a difference
This year you can do more than just sympathise. You can help fight climate change whilst saving money at the same time. Investing in eco-friendly solutions will not only benefit our environment, but home owners can enjoy savings on energy bills through improved efficiency. We are all responsible and all have a part to play. Through working together, we can begin to make a significant difference to our future, sustainably warming our homes so the planet can begin to heal.
