Case Study

Construction of a Manufacturing Facility

Worthing

Project Overview

This client is an award-winning manufacturer, producing digital and infrared thermometers for the food service industry. Our client’s business has grown considerably over the last few years, with a significant increase in sales of measurement devices and related products. Therefore, they needed our architectural services in West Sussex. As a result, this would increase capacity from two existing factories to introduce a third factory to accommodate the demands of its growing, comprehensive global network of distributors.

Rundown Factory Unit Requiring Extensive Refurbishment

The client purchased a rundown factory unit which required extensive refurbishment and construction to deliver a world class manufacturing facility to exacting standards. This unit was located in Worthing, West Sussex.

Our client’s objective was to transform this rundown, old factory unit to extend its world class manufacturing facility. This would include another production line, research and development offices, temperature controlled rooms to calibrate equipment, as well as management offices.

Construction of a Second Floor to Maximise Space

To provide our client with the space they required and to maximise the space available in the unit, we not only had to construct on the ground floor, we also had to extend up within the unit to construct a first floor. The factory unit was situated on poor ground as it was close to a stream. Through a careful process with the structural engineer, the foundations were designed and installed to allow for the first floor construction. The other challenge was speed. Our client desperately needed the facility to accommodate the growing demand.

Large Roof Lights and Eco-Friendly Air Conditioning

The results were amazing. One of the standout features we managed to achieve was the large roof lights pouring light into the factory. We also enabled and eco-friendly air conditioning system promoting a great production environment, fresh air and maximised natural light for all workers.

I would like to personally thank the team at Roberts Miller Redshaw for the transformation of the warehouse at Dominion Way. The project presented many challenged. However, through regular communications with Marc and Nick, ensured these were overcome and the project was completed to plan and on schedule.
