This single storey rear extension was desired by a couple from London who decided to move to Worthing, looking to transform their new house into a welcoming haven with stylish social areas. Our RMR Architecture and Construction teams collaborated closely to devise plans and execute them with utmost precision, ensuring a modern and inviting finish that perfectly reflects the couple’s vision for their dream home.

Exploration of the architectural layout revealed an opportunity to enhance the house’s rear via the extension. We aimed to introduce a design that would facilitate the seamless flow of light through the kitchen and living room. Resulting in a space that not only feels brighter but also more connected. Our approach included the implementation of floor-to-ceiling windows with sleek black frames, imbuing the home with a contemporary edge. To address the issue of light in the entrance hall, we integrated a window that visually connects to the living room. This strategic addition not only brightened up the entrance but also created a sense of openness and sociality throughout the home.

Innovative Architectural Design Highlights

One of our standout design elements was the stepped roof and glass ceiling. Ensuring an abundance of natural light that transformed the dining room into a bright, inviting space, avoiding the typical boxed-in feel.

Our focus was not solely on function but also on modern aesthetics. Skylights were strategically incorporated into the ceilings to infuse more light into the living spaces.

The stairwell underwent a dramatic remodel, creating a more welcoming front entry area by adding depth and height. Therefore, dispelling the darkness of the existing design. we recognised the charm of the existing flint work and preserved it in our plans, blending the old and new seamlessly.
